Executive Summary
The One Day Climate Action Consultation Workshop, conducted by Green Hope Movement (GHM) at August 5th, 2024, aimed to empower grassroots communities in Puntland, Somalia, to take leadership roles in climate action.
The workshop focused on creating a self-led grassroots community capable of addressing climate change through locally led initiatives.
The training successfully brought together 85 participants from diverse backgrounds, including youth, members from women unions, vulnerable communities’ representatives, activists, IDPs, and local government officials.
Key outcomes included the formation of a committed grassroots community, the development of actionable climate initiatives, and the establishment of a network for ongoing support and collaboration via WhatsApp Group.
Introduction
The One Day Climate Action Consultation Workshop was designed to address the pressing need for localized climate action in Somalia, particularly in the Puntland region. As climate change increasingly impacts vulnerable communities, there is a critical need for grassroots leadership to spearhead adaptation and mitigation efforts. Green Hope Movement, a youth-led environmental organization in partnership and with a support form Oxfam Novib under the African Activists for Climate Action organized this workshop to equip local communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to take charge of their environmental future.

Training Participants

- Selection Criteria: Participants were selected based on their active involvement in community work, interest in environmental issues, and potential to lead climate action initiatives.
